If you have trouble getting so sleep, or live in an environment that isn’t conducive to getting a full night of rest, you might consider the Nightingale Smart Home Sleep System. There are plenty of factors that keep us from falling asleep. Noisy neighbors, snoring roommates, or barking dogs are less than ideal during the day. How much worse are they at night when you’re trying to get a solid eight hours?
This is where the Nightingale Smart Home Sleep System comes into play. Developed and manufactured by Cambridge Sound Management, Nightingale uses sound blankets from its mobile app to cover noises that prevent you from getting some shut-eye. In this article, we’ll review Nightingale’s sleep system device, and take a more in-depth look at what it does and how it does it.

The Nightingale Smart Home Sleep System is portable, so you can take it wherever you go. You can use it in your office while you work, in your child’s nursery room, and of course, in your bedroom.
Nightingale has two options from which to choose:
- Standard Edition– One(1) Nightingale unit, a sheet with safety information, and a quick start guide
- Premium Edition– Two(2) Nightingales units, a sheet with safety information, and a quick start guide
When you first open your Nightingale, you’ll find a device made of flat white plastic, and silver sides that have perforations. It looks like a wall outlet and has two plug sets on the front side, which is nice since you’ll cover your wall socket completely when you plug it in. Cambridge Sound Management was thinking ahead by ensuring the device would have power, but still giving you a way to use your outlets.
You’ll notice speakers on each side of the device, with a slightly hidden button residing in the lower corner of the right side. Outside of those two things, it looks like a nicely designed raised outlet. It’s designed so well that even though someone may see it sticking out of your wall, they’re not going to take specific notice of it.
Setup and Usage
Prior to setting up your Nightingale for the first time, you’ll want to download the mobile app for your smartphone. You can find it on either Google Play or the Apple App Store. If you chose the Standard Edition, go ahead and plug the device into an outlet in the room you plan to use it. For the Premium Edition, plug them into separate walls in the same room.
To ensure the best performance from the device, Nightingale recommends that you choose outlets on either side of the room. You shouldn’t plug the units directly into one another, although the devices will still work if you need to plug them in behind your bed or couch.
When you plug your Nightingale into the wall for the first time, you will hear the device tell you, “Welcome to a better night’s rest.” Once you have the devices plugged in, you can continue on through the setup process by following the guide in the app.
You’ll connect the device to your wireless network, set it to a specific location, then tell the application in which room your Nightingale will reside. You’ll want to select the right setting based on the surroundings of your room. Does it have upholstery and carpet? Then Absorptive might be the right setting. For hardwood and glass, you may want to choose Reflective. And if your room has some of both, then there’s a Neutral setting.
The Nightingale also lets you choose the color of your light if you decide to use it as a nightlight. Within the app is the ability to control the brightness of the light, so you can turn it down if you don’t want it to be so bright. You can also set a schedule so it will only light up at certain times during the day or night.
Now you can choose what sound you would like to hear while Nightingale does what it does best. You can select one of the following:
- Crickets – small electronic crickets make noise including random chirping in the background; soothing and relaxing
- Loons – the sound of birds calling to one another; starts out strong, then becomes very calming
- Lakeshore – sounds like a house sitting on the edge of a lake; frogs croak, water runs, woodpeckers knock
- Rainstorm – the magical, powerful sound of falling asleep to a thunderstorm; lightning cracks in the background as the thunder booms across throughout the room until eventually, all that can be heard is the steady sound of falling rain
- Whale Songs – the long, mournful, and yearning sounds of the whales
You’ll discover within the app the option to increase or decrease the intensity and volume of the sound blanket. Nightingale recommends keeping the number at around a 5 or 6. This way, it’s able to drown out other noises while not being too distracting for work or sleep.

Benefits
The Nightingale Smart Home Sleep System is a great way to drown out the noises around you and drift peacefully off to sleep. Even in a home where noises are constant and distracting, just turn on your Nightingale and fall fast asleep. The sound of rain falling or crickets chirping will provide a sound blanket that will soothe and relax you.
You may also discover that noises that once bothered you no longer seem to have the same effect. For instance, you may live with someone who is a light snorer or heavy breather. With the Nightingale Sleep System, you will discover that those noises no longer bother you. You will sleep right through them.
Even if you don’t have a large bedroom, you should opt for the Premium Edition, since you can use the two Nightingales in more than one room. You could use it in your office as a way to drown out unwanted noises, or you could place it in a child’s room to help them get some rest if they have trouble falling asleep at night.
The sounds provided by the Nightingale device are relaxing, comforting, and can help you concentrate while you work. It creates a peaceful environment which allows you work without distraction, so you can get more done during the day.
