iRobot is better known for its line of robot vacuums: the Roomba. Did you know that the company also has a range of mopping robots that can clean hardwood floors better than just relying on vacuuming?

Two models you should know are the iRobot Braava m6 and the Braava jet 240.  How does one compare to the other?

Braava m6

When iRobot launched the Braava m6, the company promised users they will never have to worry about dirty floors. It was released together with the Roomba s9+. The premise is simple: the Roomba s9+ will take care of vacuuming your floors, while the Braava m6 will sweep and mop it.

Main features of the Braava m6

The Braava m6 uses a precision water spray and a vibrating cleaning head to take care of stains and dirt. It works with the manufacturer’s own hard floor cleaner and wet mopping pads.

What’s more, it is effortless to use. You just put a pad and then press clean. The Braava m6 will choose the appropriate cleaning mode such as damp mopping, wet mopping, or dry sweeping.

It has a squarish form measuring 10.6 inches on each side and 3.5 inches high. The flat edges help it get closer to walls, while it’s low profile helps it to clean under furniture, around toilets and other hard to reach places.

Navigation technology and other features

This device finds its way through the room using vSLAM technology. This robot mop uses the iAdapt 3.0 navigation that you see on the Roomba i7+. It can map your floors, as well as mop it!

The robot will remember your floor plan, allowing you to clean a specific room. Because it is Wi-Fi connected, you can also tell Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to have the Braava m6 go to a particular room to clean there.

More than all these, the Braava m6 will be receiving a lot of updates over time. If there is a feature you wish it had, then you might be surprised to find that feature in the coming months.

Rating and reviews for the Braava m6

The Braava m6 gets an average rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 on the iRobot online store. Around 93 percent of all respondents report that they will recommend the robot mop to friends and family. They love how easy it is to use while giving you a hassle-free operation and effective cleaning.

However, other reviewers warn that it might be a bit noisy and can miss some spots even with its upgraded navigation system.

Braava m6: The final word

Spoiler ahead: the Braava m6 is one huge update and upgrade when compared to iRobot’s earlier robot mops. Not only does it introduce a lot of new technologies to the company’s mopping devices, but it helps you forget about cleaning your floors. People who are busy and lazy will want to buy this.

Plus it works with the company’s latest devices, so that you can get a more thorough clean where your floors are vacuumed, mopped, and swept — all that while you watch TV. The Braava m6 also has a bigger coverage. Because of its bigger size and long-lasting battery, you can have it clean larger rooms.

Does this mean that you should just forget about the Braava jet 240 and just buy the m6 now? On the contrary, these are two different devices.  Before you decide on the Braava m6, it’s best to read about the Braava jet 240. It might be more suited to your needs.

Braava jet 240

The Braava jet 240 was launched in 2016, and it was the most affordable mopping device from iRobot. When it came out, it provided people with an alternative for a mopping robot that cleaned efficiently without breaking the bank.

The Braava jet 240 has a lithium-ion battery and came with a pair of wet mopping pads, a pair of damp sweeping pads, and a pair of dry sweeping pads. It goes around mopping your floors on its own.

Comparing the Braava jet 240 with the Braava m6

So how does the Braava jet 240 compare with the Braava m6? Let’s first look at the similarities.

Braava jet 240 vs. Braava m6: What’s the same?

Both of these devices have the precision jet spray technology that loosens the stains and dirt on your floor. You can also adjust the spray level on both devices, so your floors are never too wet or too dry. These devices can go back and forth mopping, just like how you would clean your floors.

You can do wet mopping, dry sweeping, and damp mopping with the Braava jet 240 and Braava m6. These cleaning modes make both devices ideal for cleaning hard floors. They also have the maximized-edge design that allows the robot to sidle up to wall edges for a closer and more thorough clean.

These devices both use a lithium-ion battery, which provides a longer lasting charge than older nickel metal hydride batteries. You can use the Braava Jet Hard Floor Cleaning Solution as well as the different pads offered by iRobot with both of these robots.

You can also invoke the spot cleaning mode to direct the robot to clean on a smaller and dirtier area of the floor.

The differences between the Braava jet 240 and the Braava m6

Comparing two robot moppers from the opposite ends of the spectrum means that you will encounter a lot of differences.

  • Dimensions and weight

When it comes to size, the Braava m6 is bigger and taller than the Braava jet 240. This means that the Braava m6 can cover a wider area than the jet 240 in a single pass. This helps the newer robot to clean a room faster. On the other hand, the Braava jet 240 can go under more furniture because of its lower profile.

These differences in dimensions contribute to their cleaning performance. The Braava jet 240 is ideal for smaller rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms, while the newer robot is perfect for multiple rooms and bigger spaces. The m6 is also much heavier than the jet 240, weighing in at 4.85 pounds vs. only 2.70 pounds.

  • Vibrating cleaning head

Along with the precision jet spray, the vibrating clean head helps to agitate dirt and dust, allowing the Braava jet 240 to easily clean it up. The Braava m6 does not have this feature.

  • HOME app

Both of these robots can connect to Roomba’s HOME app. However, there are differences in the features you can do for both. You can remotely control the Braava m6 using the smartphone app, while also viewing a digital map of your room, see the cleaning performance of the robot, and create a zone. You can also control the Imprint Link features on the app.

The Braava jet 240 only allows you to invoke spot cleaning from the app.

  • Wi-Fi connectivity

The Braava jet 240 is not Wi-Fi compatible. You can, however, connect your Braava m6 to your Wi-Fi network, giving you full access to the robot using the HOME app. You can also use voice command if you have either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant at home.

  • Auto-recharge

Only the Braava m6 finds its way back to charging base once the battery runs low. It will also launch itself off the charging base and resume cleaning where it left off.

The jet 240 does not have both of these features.

  • Navigation technology

The Braava jet 240 uses iAdapt 2.0 navigation, while the m6 uses iAdapt 3.0.

The earlier iAdapt technology uses sensors and an onboard camera to create maps of your floors. This map will allow the jet 240 to know where it is in the room while knowing where it has already cleaned and where it needs to go next. It will delete these maps after every cleaning session.

The iAdapt 3.0 technology, on the other hand, allows the robot to scan your floors, store these maps, and identify the rooms it has on memory. This technology will enable you to send the m6 to a particular room using the app or smart speakers. For instance, you can tell Alexa to send the Braava m6 to the master’s bedroom to clean there.

  • Imprint Link

The Braava m6 has the Imprint Link technology that is absent from the Braava jet 240. This technology allows the robot to communicate with either the Roomba i7 or s9. This way the Braava m6 can mop and sweep after the Roomba vacuums.

  • Price

The Braava jet 240 has always been the most affordable robot mop since it was introduced. The Braava m6, however, has a lot of new technologies and features that make it worth the higher price.
